Zachary Levi who plays Chuck Bartowski on the comedy TV series Chuck is too busy involved with being Chuck to have any forthcoming projects. But, that is good news because it means Chuck is well and alive. Season 5 continued to air early this January with the episode titled "Chuck Versus the Kept Man". In the TV series, Chuck, we have a computer geek accidently downloading encoded images into his brain and becomes a national security asset and risk, too. NSA and CIA engage John Casey and Sarah Walker to provide Chuck the protection that he needs and also to exploit the secret information stored in his brain. This forms the background of the serial and each of the episodes has been given a sub-title like ‘Chuck versus the Santa Suit’ or Chuck versus some other thing. The one-hour show is packed with action interlaced with comedy and the spontaneous reactions of the characters are so realistic that they add to the humor. None of the actors have done over-acting in any of the episodes that I have watched and there is excellent chemistry between them. While watching the series one can make out that Chuck and Sarah liked each other from the beginning and you wait for the romance.
The popularity of the TV show, “Chuck”, revived it after it had ended with its 4th season. The current episode, ‘Chuck versus the Hack Off’, revolves around a computer virus which tests the expertise of Chuck as a computer expert. The theme is different from other episodes where Chuck has to play the role of a spy more often. Here he is his modest and shy self and has to restrain himself from going overboard with his relationship with Sarah, the CIA agent who has been assigned to protect and exploit the special ability of his embedded brain. The TV series has a universal appeal with a pleasant blend of action and comedy. The best part of the show is that it is slightly different from the clichéd spy-dramas and no over-acting has been done by any of the characters and the chemistry between them is worth watching.
“Chuck” is an action serial with a dose of comedy and is not an outright comedy show where you expect a laughter riot. The lead character, Chuck Bartowski, is basically a computer expert who by chance gets into espionage on a part time basis. He is a modest and reserved person who has to keep together the different aspects of his life together and shares a great chemistry with the spy, Sarah Walker. The spontaneous reactions of many characters cause laughter even when the situation is tensed for action. Though all episodes are a bit different from each other the funny and thrilling situations are a common feature of most episodes. It is one of those serials which get better with time.
The American TV series premiered its first episode in September 2007 and the fan following that the series gathered compelled the producers to continue with the show till its 5th season which is in progress right now. The lead characters of the computer geek, Chuck Bartowski and Sarah Walter, the CIA agent are not only realistic but there is an uncanny chemistry between them which makes you want them to fall in love. Even though their jobs keep them together for quite sometime, they are not supposed to get involved at a personal level. Yet as the story progresses you know that it’s going to happen.
