The action drama, Flashpoint, premiered on 11th July 2008 and instantly drew audiences and positive reviews. The pilot entitled as ‘Scorpio’ was based on a real event that took place in Toronto in 2004. The writers, Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern, created more incidents like hostage-taking, passenger jet plane hijack, bomb threats and combating heavily armed criminals as the back drop of each episode. A highly-skilled police force known as Strategic Response Unit is asked to handle situations which extremely dangerous. The group is trained to use high-tech weapons and bombs but they first try to use negotiations and getting into the minds of culprits to defuse them and resort to weapons only if other attempts fail to produce results. The main actors in the TV series are Hugh, Dillon, Enrico Colantoni, Amy Jo Johnson and David Paetkau. All of them are Canadian actors except for Amy Johnson who is from US. They are members of SRU and have performed reasonably well in their respective roles. Till now four seasons of the show have been aired by CTV in Canada and now Bell Media, who have sole-rights of the show, have asked the producers, Bill Mustos and Annie Marie La Traverse, to make another season comprising of 18 episodes which are likely to be shown in 2012.

Canadian TV drama, Flashpoint, premiered on July 11, 2008 on CTV in Canada and is now running its fourth season. The show is about a highly skilled group of members working as Strategic Response Unit which is a part of Canadian Police Force. The writers, Stephanie Ellis and Mark Ellis, adapted the series from real incident which occurred in Toronto in 2004 when some hostages were taken at a shopping mall. This incident forms the base of the pilot episode made for the series and immediately rekindled the minds of the viewers.

The original idea for the show came from a real incident when some hostages were taken in Toronto and the Special Task Force of Canadian police was called to free the hostages. The writers, Mark Ellis and Stephanie, used this incident in the pilot episode of the series called, ‘Scorpio’. Most of the star cast is Canadian except for Amy Jo Johnson, who is from US. Other actors are Hugh Dillon, Enrico Colantoni, David Paetkau and several others. Till now four seasons of the series have been shown and now Bell Media, the owners, have ordered for another season consisting of 18 episodes which will be aired in 2012.

Last year Bell Media acquired the total rights of the show and has asked for the production of another season containing 18 episodes. The series is about an elite group highly trained commandos working under Strategic Response Unit who handle extremely difficult and dangerous situations like hostage-taking, bomb threats and combating heavily armed criminals, if negotiations do not produce results.
