The action drama, Flashpoint, premiered on 11th July 2008 and instantly drew audiences and positive reviews. The pilot entitled as ‘Scorpio’ was based on a real event that took place in Toronto in 2004. The writers, Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern, created more incidents like hostage-taking, passenger jet plane hijack, bomb threats and combating heavily armed criminals as the back drop of each episode. A highly-skilled police force known as Strategic Response Unit is asked to handle situations which extremely dangerous. The group is trained to use high-tech weapons and bombs but they first try to use negotiations and getting into the minds of culprits to defuse them and resort to weapons only if other attempts fail to produce results. The main actors in the TV series are Hugh, Dillon, Enrico Colantoni, Amy Jo Johnson and David Paetkau. All of them are Canadian actors except for Amy Johnson who is from US. They are members of SRU and have performed reasonably well in their respective roles. Till now four seasons of the show have been aired by CTV in Canada and now Bell Media, who have sole-rights of the show, have asked the producers, Bill Mustos and Annie Marie La Traverse, to make another season comprising of 18 episodes which are likely to be shown in 2012.
